On November 15, Humanities Texas will hold two free grants workshops for cultural and educational organizations in the Panhandle region.
The workshops, which are open to the public, will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the offices of the Amarillo Area Foundation at 801 S. Fillmore. Each workshop will last about an hour.
Humanities Texas Director of Grants and Education Eric Lupfer will discuss grant opportunities provided by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Dr. Lupfer will also address other Humanities Texas resources, including its traveling exhibits program, speakers directory and teaching awards.
Over the past three decades, Humanities Texas has awarded more than 1,800 grants to Texas organizations for public programs grounded in history, literature and other humanities disciplines.
Humanities Texas grants help make possible a wide range of humanities-based public programs, including lectures, conferences, oral history projects, teacher institutes, museum exhibitions, innovative web programming and award-winning documentaries, many of which address little-known aspects of Texas history and culture.
Several organizations in the Panhandle region have received recent grants.
In July, Humanities Texas awarded a grant to the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum to support a lecture at the Palo Duro Film Festival.
West Texas A&M University received a grant earlier this year for a performance by Peninnah Schram, recipient of the National Storytelling Network 2003 Lifetime Achievement Award.
Other Humanities Texas grant recipients in the region include Amarillo College, the Amarillo Public Library, Lipscomb’s Wolf Creek Heritage Museum and Canadian’s Red River Valley Pioneer Museum.
Amarilloians Wendy Marsh, Carol Nicklaus, Mary Kay Snell and Claudia Stuart have served on the organization’s board of directors.
